The recent posts of double bagging have really raised my awareness
as I am setting up my first letterbox to be placed.
I like the idea of carrying extra ziplocks, not just for when a bag
is broken in a LB but to maybe include a second bag for the logbook,
especially in the soggy Northwest.
My question: Would LB placers be offended if I took along a sharpie
and marked "Stamp bag" and "Logbook bag #1" and "Logbook bag #2" on
LB's that I find?
I have been guilty of being so excited about opening up a LB that I
don't pay attention to how it was constructed. I have sometimes
found an extra bag after I put it together and realized that I
needed to double bag the logbook.
Would LB placers please tell me if you would be okay with me
doublebagging your log (when it is not) and marking on the bags what
they are for? I would love to do this but only with a general
consensus of "yes".
Thanks so much!

I think repairing and adding any improvements is totally
appropriate. When we plant boxes we are really only making our best
guess as to how weather will act on them right in that spot. It's
the finder who comes along later who discovers whether our efforts
worked or not. If they seem inadequate, fix it. It's not like you're
changing the hiding spot or stamp. THAT would be offensive!
I recently had a chuckle when someone noted that the ink had run out
in a pen in one of my boxes.... I'd planted it with a pencil!
Checked it out, and sure 'nuff, it had a dead pen - AND an ink pad
which I hadn't left there either.

I just ran into a situation where I had used a pencil as part of my log
book, it is an old form of Japanese book binding, where a piece of wood is
used along the spine. I had cut off the pencil on both ends and drawn lines
on it. (To look like a carasoul pole). When I went to check on the book I
found someone had taken the rubber band off of the book, taken the pencil
out and sharpened it. My mistake for using an old pencil for the wood..
needless to say when I replace it, it won't be with another pencil.

I personally would appreciate any effort to care for my stamps/boxes.
I also think it is extremely well-mannered of you to ask for permission
rather than assuming. Welcome to the world of Letterboxing--I can tell you
are a great addition!

I would be delighted if someone took the time to do this with any of my
boxes they came across. I am not always able to get to my boxes on a
regular basis to make sure they are ok. I would not be offended in any
way. It shows me that others out there are careful and appreciate my
boxes. (Can you come to Colorado and do this to all of mine?) =]

Sounds like a good deed to me! I didn't double-bag initially, but when I
went to check on some of our boxes a little dampness was evident. I've now
started a second bag to help protect them more. I also label the bags -
stamp, logbook inner bag, logbook outer bag. (Don't know how many times my
husband & I have looked at each other and said, what was in this bag? which
is the stamp bag? what went in what? We really appreciated those boxes
that spelled it out for us with notes on the bags!)
